KDP needs a valid file, but readers still need a clear promise, the right categories, useful keywords, and a cover that signals the shelf.
A manuscript can upload to KDP successfully and still be unprepared for publication. File validity is a technical gate. The listing is the reader's decision surface, and it has to explain what the book is, who it is for, and why this version deserves attention.
Start with metadata that agrees with the book. The title and subtitle should match the cover. The description should make a specific promise without stuffing keywords. Categories should describe the shelf where the right reader is already browsing, not the broadest audience you can imagine.
Keywords work best as reader language: situations, problems, settings, tropes, and phrases someone might actually search. Avoid repeating words already carried by the title and categories. Do not use claims such as bestselling unless they are true and permitted.
Then check the physical object. Trim size, margins, gutter, page count, bleed, and spine width affect whether the interior is comfortable and the cover fits. Preview both paperback and ebook editions before publishing; they fail in different ways.
Novelbound prepares the structure, checks common rejection risks, and produces the publishing files. The final review remains a human decision because the listing represents your book in public.
