The short version
Novelbound holds unpublished manuscripts, which is about as private as data gets. We don't read your writing, we don't train anything on it, we don't sell or share it, and we never see your card number. You can export everything and delete your account whenever you want.
What we hold
- Your email address. It's how you sign in — there's no password to store.
- Everything you write in the app. Books, chapters, scenes, characters, threads, notes, timelines.
- Subscription state. Whether you're trialing, active, past due or cancelled, and identifiers Square gives us.
- Ordinary server logs. Requests and errors, kept for operating the service.
What we do not hold
- Card numbers. Card details go directly to Square and are never sent to our servers. We store only Square's identifiers.
- A password. Sign-in is a one-time emailed link, so there's no password to leak.
- Third-party trackers. No advertising pixels, no analytics SDKs, no session recording.
Your manuscripts
We do not read your work, and we do not use it to train any model. No AI feature in Novelbound touches your prose — the app deliberately has none, because it is meant to be the system of record, not a co-writer.
Access is per account and enforced on the server. Another user cannot read your books by guessing an address or an identifier; the application refuses, and the refusal is written so it can't even be used to work out whether something exists. That behaviour is covered by an automated test suite that runs before every release.
The one human exception: if you email us for support and ask us to look at something specific, we may need to look at it to help. We'll say so, and we'll look at that thing only.
Who else touches your data
- Square — payments and subscriptions. They receive your email and card details directly.
- Resend — sends your sign-in and account emails. They handle your email address.
- Hostinger — the server the application runs on.
Nobody else. We don't sell data and we don't run an affiliate or advertising arrangement.
Where it lives
On a single server, in one database, backed up regularly. Backups include a full markdown copy of every book, which is the same format you'd get from Export — so a restore never depends on our software still existing.
Getting your work out
Compile & export writes your books as a clean folder of markdown files. It works on any account, including a lapsed or cancelled one. You never need our permission or our help to leave with everything.
Deleting your account
Email quincy@cleverwolfdigital.com and we delete the account and everything in it within 30 days, including from backups as they rotate. Export first — deletion is not reversible, and we can't recover a book for you afterwards.
Children
Novelbound isn't intended for anyone under 13, and we don't knowingly hold their data.
Changes
If this policy changes in a way that affects how your writing is handled, we'll email you before it takes effect. Minor wording fixes just get a new date at the top.
