Terms of service

The short version

You keep every right to everything you write. We provide the software for $9.99 a month, do our best to keep it running, and won't hold your manuscript hostage if you stop paying. Full refund within 30 days.

1. Who we are

Novelbound is operated by Clever Wolf Digital, LLC, Honolulu, Hawaii. Contact: quincy@cleverwolfdigital.com. "We" means Clever Wolf Digital; "you" means the person holding the account.

2. Your work is yours

You retain all rights, title and interest in everything you create in Novelbound. We claim no ownership and no licence to publish, display, adapt or sell it. We don't use your writing to train models, and we don't use it in marketing.

The only permission you give us is the narrow technical one needed to run the service: to store your work, transmit it back to you, and include it in backups.

3. Your account

One account is one person. Sign-in is by emailed link, so keeping your email secure is what keeps your account secure. Tell us promptly if you think someone else has access.

You must be at least 13 to use Novelbound.

4. Payment

• $9.99 per month, billed in advance through Square.
• The free trial requires no card and charges nothing when it ends.
• Existing subscribers keep their price for as long as the subscription stays active.
• Refunds are covered in the refund policy: full refund within 30 days of a charge, none after.

5. What happens if you stop paying

Your account becomes read-only. You can still open, read and export every book. Nothing is deleted and nothing is hidden. You just can't write new words until the subscription is active again.

We will not delete your work for non-payment. If we ever intend to remove dormant data we will email you first and give you time to export.

6. Acceptable use

Don't use Novelbound to:

• store or distribute material that is illegal where you are;
• store sexual content involving minors — this results in immediate termination and, where required, a report;
• attack, probe or overload the service, or attempt to reach another user's data;
• resell or sublicense access to your account.

We otherwise take no view on what you write. Fiction is fiction, including uncomfortable fiction.

7. Availability

We aim to keep Novelbound running and backed up, but this is a small product on a single server and we don't offer a formal uptime guarantee. Keep your own exports if your work is irreplaceable — Compile & export exists for exactly that and takes one click.

8. Changes to the service

Features may change. If we remove something you depend on, or change these terms in a way that affects your rights or your money, we'll email you before it takes effect.

9. Ending it

You can cancel any time from Account. We may suspend or terminate an account that breaches section 6, or that we're legally required to act on. If we terminate an account that hasn't breached anything, we refund the unused portion.

10. Liability

Novelbound is provided as is. To the extent the law allows, our total liability for any claim is limited to what you paid us in the twelve months before it arose. We are not liable for lost profits, lost opportunities, or the consequences of lost data beyond that amount.

Nothing here limits liability that cannot legally be limited.

11. Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Hawaii, United States.
